Clutch, changing gear problems
Having problems getting car into gear. Have to switch off put car in gear start up try to get it through the gears.
Advised it's the clutch or a hydraulic problem, oh dear. Anyone had a similar issue? Is changing the clutch a big (expensive) job?

About £600. The gears are a bit clunky to change anyways. You do need a bit of elbow grease at times.

Thanks jontymac, managed to get the car back to the garage, by which time the brake sensor was bleeping and 'STOP' light blaring at me from the dash which, said my mechanic, could mean it's leaking fluid and a smaller job phew. I'll report back....

Re: Clutch, changing gear problems
Well, it was the 'slave cylinder' small crack leaked fluid, clutch kaput, all replaced. A big job time wise, everything has to come out and cleaned, the fluid is very corrosive, (begs the question is there an alternative, why put a corrosive material right in the belly of the car? hey ho!) But since everything was already out, the garage replaced front drop links too (advisory on recent Mot), and I'm back on the road. The garage is an independent called Cartec, good bunch of guys, recommend them if you're in the Scottish Borders.
