6th year service/cambelt
Good idea to open a thread on this to see who's had it done and what it costs ?
Also is the 6th year a major service ? Plus on 6 years old would it be worth changing spark plugs or would they hav e been done on an earlier service ?
Cheers guys

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Along with the belts, & water pump (See also thread entitled "6 year service issues" which mostly relates to poor workmanship by dealer) my local dealer carried out a "189" service; whatever that means; at 5yrs 4 mths in late Jan 2017.
Items replaced for the service were: Oil Filter; Passenger Compartment Filter; sealing washer (presumably sump plug washer). No mention of plugs or air filter.
It was also serviced when I bought it July 2015 when all that was changed was Oil Filter & sealing washer.
When the previous owner had it serviced in Aug 2014 only the oil filter was changed.
So a car first registered Sept 2011 has; based on what evidence I have; never had it's plugs or air filter changed!
That said it's only done 17000 miles & the plugs & air filter are probably mileage based.
This electronic manual from Renault is novel & doesn't, as far as I can see, mention air filters.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
More info re plugs from Renault "Live Chat".
They said change at 36000mls. Did not mention any time related limits.
They have promised to send me service schedule data which I'll put here if it is of use.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Renault have sent me a service schedule for my 1.6 although I doubt that things would be much different for a 1.2.
Can't see how to attach a file so I'll try an old fashioned copy & paste!
That didn't work very well.
Advice please as to how to attach a PDF file!!
Basic info is:
"Renault Service": 18000mls 2yrs
Oil & Filter: 18000mls 2 yrs
Cabin Filter: 18000mls 2yrs
Spark Plugs: 36000mls NO TIME LIMIT!
Air Filter: 54000mls 4yrs
Brake Fluid: 72000mls 4yrs
Aux Belt & rollers: 72000mls 6yrs
Cam Belt & rollers: 72000mls 6yrs
Coolant: 90000mls 4yrs

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
I'm shocked at the reckoned lifespan of the engine air-filter. Considering how inexpensive the paper ones are, i'd give serious consideration to replacing it anyway during an oil & filter swap.
Having said that, I'd be interested to see how K&N or other after market 'washable' filters perform.

Looked on internet & most of the usual spares places didn't do the air filter for the 1.6. Got mine for £24 inc postage from micksgarage.com which I guess/hope was cheaper than from Renault.
In addition to the usual paper folds this filter has a layer of what looks like fuzzy felt which seems to prefilter the air before it reaches the folds. Mine was pretty dirty after 5.5yrs & 17000m so replacement would seem a good idea. Couldn't find a K&N to fit original air box only an Induction Kit.
I will also change my brake fluid this week as it's not been done yet.
Once I've done brake fluid & fitted the filter I'll be up to date with all 6 yr service items with hopefully no more attention needed for 18000mls or 2 yrs.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Well sometimes work is repaid with results.
New air filter has mellowed engine induction note; with Renaultsport air box restrictor removed (1.6 only); & there is a noticeably better feel to the brakes after I pumped 1.5 litres of DOT 4 ESP fluid through them.

No it is better. It's a guy round the corner where I work. Brilliant garage. When my roof failed last year just before the French trip they sorted it.

Dread to think of main dealer price. I am thinking Camblet, 6th Year Service, MOT - circa £ 500 ?

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Bullyboy,
See thread titled: 6 yr service issues.
My quoted guaranteed price for a 1.6; parts & labour; was: Belts: £399 (Cam & Auxiliary along with tensioners, etc) ; 6 yr Service: £189; Water Pump & new coolant: £50; a total of £638.
That price included a discount on the labour rate for past problems with my wife's Captur's servicing & the Wind's pre sales service, when I bought it from them, so brace yourself when you get a dealer quote!!.
Is your's a 1.6?
As you will see from that thread all did not go well!!

Pittstop 1.2. I did know this when bought it but still getting ready. I will take it to the same dealer my wife bought a brand new kadjar from. Maybe a family discount !

Are we talking Motorline Maidstone? Not sure if I should be naming dealers on this forum?
My wife bought a new Captur in 2013.

Pity: Orpington is a lot further from us than Maidstone otherwise I'd have given them a try next time we needed dealer attention.
My only relief is that the Captur & the Wind are both recently serviced so we shouldn't need to avail ourselves of dealership attention for 2 yrs or 18000 mls!!
My experiences of Captur & Wind as cars are very good but my opinion of dealership workshop is very sceptical!!

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Just had the invoice through for the Cambelt change (bearing in mind, it was done just before Kent!).
Cam Belt Kit: £35
Water Pump: £53
Anti-Freeze: £10
Labour: £140
So, by the time you add on VAT, you're looking at just shy of £300, although the bill was a little more to fit the springs, but I'd say that was a good deal.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Just had the cambelt and auxiliary belt done on the 1.6 plus a full 6th year service at a main dealer and it was about £800 (6.5 hours labour for the cambelt alone!).
Unfortunately rear brake discs, hubs and pads also needed so well into four figures in total. Ouch!

Knebby,
The sad saga of my cam belt & service is documented in the thread: 6th Year Service Issues.
That said it seems I got away lightly financially in comparison with your bill but I really hope you don't have all the quality of workmanship issue that I had to follow up on.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Cost me a few pounds shy of £590 at main dealer and that also included the MOT too. Not a great deal compared to what a few others have got, but know they will sort if any issues.
They did flag that my rear discs were showing some signs of corrosion. Ok for now but need to keep eye on.

Re: 6th year service/cambelt
Just had the cam belt and fan belt changed and a set of wiper blades fitted and the total cost was £237.60 so I am quite relieved at that, the car passed it's mot with no issues last week so everything good.
