Knocking noise when on full lock
Hello!
My wind has developed a knocking noise at low speed when the steering is on full lock. ie. doing a three point turn or parking. Anyone had the same or got any ideas?
thanks in advance.

It could be the Constant Velocity (C.V.) joint on one of the drive shafts. That would be my first check.

Yep that is a classic symptom of a worn CV joint. You may be able to identify which one it is by checking the rubber bellows that cover it just behind each front wheel mounting where the driveshaft bends. The one that's worn is likely to have a ripped or holed bellows which will allow crap in and lubricant out hence leading to the wear.

It could be a broken front spring, I had that on another car.
If it is, it is better to replace both at once.

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. Within reason, is it safe to drive until I can get her booked into a garage later this week?

Take it easy and you should be OK, less risky if it is a worn CV joint than a broken spring

Agree should be OK to drive short term, just don't drive like you stole it or a rental car...Timtnx wrote:Take it easy and you should be OK, less risky if it is a worn CV joint than a broken spring
