Will 205 /45/17 tyres fit my 1.2 wind
I am thinking of changing my tyres on my wind.At present i have standard 205/40/17 tyres.does anyone know if 205/45/17 tyres will fit.not sure if they will scuff on wheel arches.want to give better protection for the alloys and improve the ride thanks Dave

Don’t think they would scuff the wheel arches, but I would have thought it will affect the accuracy of your speedometer!

I have that size, and was told going one size up will be fine but not any bigger as the speedometer, etc goes out of whack. I find they feel better and look better even though the size difference isn’t exactly noticeable but to my OCD eyes it is, haha.

Going from 205 / 40 to 205 / 45 will raise your overall gearing by approx 3.7%.
The real benefit would seem to be a ride height gain of 10mm which would put this much more tyre between the wheel & the road with a corresponding improvement in comfort on our potholed roads.

The roads are terrible here in Swansea, shockingly so. I do try to avoid potholes as much as possible but sometimes it just can’t be done. I always find in the Wind when going over potholes that it sounds a lot worse than I normally experience in other cars, (I drive all types of cars on a daily basis in work as part of the job I do). I get the wheels checked every now and then, and I have yet to drive over a pothole that does any actual damage to the wheel and I’ve driven over some real bad ones.

Hi. What does it mean by "raise your overall gearing..."pittstop wrote:Going from 205 / 40 to 205 / 45 will raise your overall gearing by approx 3.7%.

By raising the gearing, in this case by fitting a tyre that increases the overall diameter & circumference of the driving wheels, the further one travels per revolution of the wheel.
Thus: If one assumes that the 1.6 Wind travels at approx 18.6mph per 1000rpm in top gear then with the proposed change of tyres it would travel at 19.3mph (18.6 x 1.037) per 1000rpm.
