Supermarket Fuel

For some reason my MPG has gone up recently. I am regularly getting 40+ now (I reset every time I fill up) . For the previous year it was 37 mpg most of the time (tyres pressures at eco values!). The only significant change was a move away from supermarket fuel (and a change of route home from work).

A quick search suggests the criticisms of supermarket fuel are misplaced. Whatever it is, it lead to quite a change in performance. 

Maybe the gauges are not wholly reliable - however if we can split the atom etc...

PS. sure we've had his discussion before but couldn't find the evidence.

Hi Barry, are you a 1.2 or a 1.6?

After many thousands of miles in both I find I get around 42 mpg in the 1.2 and around 38 mpg in the 1.6, both averaging around 36mph and avoiding supermarket fuel.

Hi Knebby. I'm a 1.6 GT Line. Funny thing is, I used to be disappointed with anything under 38 and now I have a figure I'm very happy with, I am reluctant to believe it lol.
NB. I tell myself 'if it wasn't important, they wouldn't bother with a gauge' ;-)
PS. 'perhaps' more surprising, none of my driving is on the motorway.

Tyre pressures at "ECO" values. That's 44psi front. How do you stop your teeth from vibrating out on our roads!

My 1.6 GT Line averages about 36 mpg in mixed motoring using mostly Sainsburys fuel.

Just topped the tyre pressures right-up for the first time in a while. Always amazes me the difference it makes not only to the ride, but to the sound in the cabin, the balance, everything! Anyway, let see if it makes any difference to an already healthy fuel consumption.
