Cambelt Change
Morning All,
I'm considering purchasing a Wind as a weekend car, but doing some research it looks like according to Renault, they're pretty much all due a cambelt change for age (5 years), rather than miles (60,000). I've been and looked at three cars so far, but none have service records of their belts being changed. Having had my old Megane eat itself due to a cambelt failure, I'm quite keen to ensure this is sorted. Does anyone have experience of getting it changed? I'm probably looking for a 1.2 variant but wondering what the cost would be for getting it changed if anyone has any experience. Has anyone had a cambelt failure in their Wind?

I might be shot down here i think its 72k or 6 years. But can't remember anyone on here mentioning it. As Knebby has the car with the most miles on it he might know.

Clever girl.
Renault do generally sat 5 years / 60k, but the specific Wind recommendation from Renault is 6 years 72k miles.
The Renault electronic manuals are pretty good.

Re: Cambelt Change
Thanks for the advice. Won't have to panic for 12 months then if I can get a 2011 car. Whilst I'll probably think about getting it done in the autumn or whenever the next service is due.
...and thanks for the welcome.

Hi
Yes, I had mine donevaroundvthev70/80,000 mark. It was a few years now and I had it done by a dealer along with a service as it was still under warranty. I can't remember the cost but it'd be cheaper at an independent.
And thanks for the reminder, its due another one now.

Re: Cambelt Change
You may consider doing a deal to get a Wind and a discount price for a cambelt change at the same time from a dealer with a workshop that knows what they are doing.
Just say at the end of negociations, I would not want this car without a cambelt change, what deal can we do
I would estimate a cambelt job is around £300 to £500 in todays money depending on workshop (independant or Renault), going by my neigbours Megane who paid £450 last year at Renault for a cambelt change.

I would expect to pay a minimum of 400 for a belt change; unsure if the engine needs shuffling like on the twingo 133

Re: Cambelt Change
Bad news and costly if Wind 1.6i engine had to be lifted up for access just to fit a belt (1.6i same engine as Twingo 133).
I assume Twingo 133 engine compartment is too tight which is a real bad design. Maybe Wind engine compartment is wider for access, we hope. Looking at it I am not too sure.

Mine is due a new cambelt in November. When I bought my 1.2 Dynamique last September the independent garage but Renault specialist quoted £299 all in. Sounded cheap compared to when my Saab had a cambelt change.

Re: Cambelt Change
Hi everyone wondered if you could give me some help as I am pretty clueless about the mechanics of a car. I keep seeing members going on about a cambelt change. My car has 22k on the clock is a 2010 plate but was first registered in 2011. It is coming up to 6 years however has low millage. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Cambelt Change
Its the sixth year for changing the belt irresoective of mileage.
With that low a mileage you could take the risk and leave it for a year or two, but its up to you.
I lost my belt on a Nissan Micra many years ago and it was a lot of money then for replacing bent valves.
The 1.2i is around the £300 mark for belt change, and its changed in situ.
The 1.6i is dearer, and we still do not know if the engine has to be lifted up to get to the belt, if so it will be a lot dearer. (I have the 1.6i)

Re: Cambelt Change
Thanks Colin565 to be quite truthful if I look after my car then it will look after me. This also happened to one of my friends on his Escort years ago. The ammount of money he had to shell out to get it fixed was unreal and a lot more than the 300 quid. I will get it done next Easter when it is it's 6 years. Thanks again for your advice.colin565 wrote:Its the sixth year for changing the belt irresoective of mileage.

Maybe demand will outstrip supply of the belts in 2017......
