Roof rattle behind drivers head
Hello all,
Can anyone advise if there is any adjustment to take out the rattle on the photos attached.
Be good to hear your views before I start undoing nuts and unsure of the consequences.
N/S side is tight and firm and O/S has a small gap and rattle, moves about 3mm.
Rattle area arrowed as is the rear nuts on second image.
Thank is advance

Re: Roof rattle behind drivers head
My advice...and it's cured every creak and rattle on mine so far..roof, boot and mechanism
Unless you're certain that anything is actually loose..liberally apply silicon grease over every part of every area that moves or creaks in the car, and every pivot point related to the boot and roof mechanism.
Also grease along the top of the windscreen top rubber seal, and also the two positioning pins at the front of the roof..
I found the best way was to stop the roof opening mechanism halfway by switching off the ignition.
Hope this helps..

Thank you for your posting.
I have greased it all as looked at previous comments.
There is actual play at arrowed picture from the outside, the other side is solid.
Any others that can help much appreciated?

Old sea dogs advice is definitely the best thing to do for roof rattles.
If it doesn’t fix it, try asking on the Facebook club page to see if anyone has had the same problem mate.

Rattling roof
Hi. I have exactly the same problem except mine is loose on the nearside. Did you manage to sort it out?

Roof rattling
I had a closer look a few mins ago and it is a loose rivet. Doesn't look to be an important thing as it is the cushion when the back comes back down. Other than re-riveting I think a small zip tie would hold it in place and remove the play and rattle. I'd rather get it done with a new rivet obviously, but I'll experiment with a small, discrete zip tie and see if it works and doesn't affect anything.

Roof rattling
Hi everyone. So...as promised (after it had stopped raining for days on end) I applied the two plastic ties to the roof bit that was loose. This is in the 1st photo from the original poster. It no longer rattles. The part has no sensors and is purely a cushion for when the back comes back down. Roof is fine with no issues. Unfortunately when you have the boot up you can see the ties. I mean, they don't shout at you but YOU know they are there!

Mine had some play on these catches, I just ended up wrapping some electrical insulation tape around the metal hooks that latch down onto the bracket. This took up the play and the tape gives some padding. No more rattles!

I'd still get the silicone grease out though to prevent future rattles

The bit at the top of the windscreen when the roof opens. And when the back is up clean the hinges and grease.

I checked mine while cleaning for the recent meeting and found the same play in one side of mine. Easy fix, I just stuck some adhesive foam draft excluder I had to the top of the lower pad. All play gone.BigDan wrote:Mine had some play on these catches, I just ended up wrapping some electrical insulation tape around the metal hooks that latch down onto the bracket. Hi. If I could figure out how to send a picture I would! If you raise the boot a.couple of feet you can see the part from the original picture. Grab hold of that bit and shake it a bit. You should see and hear some play. Especially if you do the same on the other side and see the difference (,unless both have play!). There should be no play.Keef wrote:Hello!fordprefect4 wrote:Hi everyone. So...as promised (after it had stopped raining for days on end) I applied the two plastic ties to the roof bit that was loose.
