Roof issue
New on here and looks fantastic forum.
Been the proud owner of a WInd since last March 1.2 Collection TCE and absolutely love it.
Open top is tremendous UNTIL TODAY ????
Tried to open roof as normal and comes up check roof and windows go down about an inch.
I decided to leave it an hour and tried again this time on dash it shows roof opened and one dash on display
I lock roof and this displayed on dash until I drive then I get beeping every 30 secs with roof cycle finished.
Any thoughts?
I'm thinking sensor, electrical gremlin.
Was working spot on as usual on Thursday.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Roof issue
The roof can be sensitive if not on the flat. The other issue could be dirt in the hinge mechanism.
Can you give us more information

Re: Roof issue
The roof was being operated in no different an area than usual.
If it is dirt how can I remedy this if I can't open it?
This hasn't happened before in the 11 months I've had car.
I'm planning on taking to a garage on Tuesday for a look over as my warranty seems to cover electrical and sensors.

Re: Roof issue
I had a problem with the roof before we went to International meet in France. I posted the solution to my problem on here somewhere will see if I can find it.

Re: Roof issue
The windows going down is the first part of the cycle before the boot or roof engages. As the windows are not going down that would suggest a fault in one of the windows or a sensor as you have suggested. It is unlikely to be dirt in the hinge mechanism. Check if both windows are operatng normally.

Re: Roof issue
Both windows are absolutely fine when working independently from the roof.

Re: Roof issue
The roof mechanism is so complex it is very difficult to pinpoint the fault through a forum. In addition to various sensors there will also be an ECU for the roof. Water inside the windows or excessive water around the boot electrics could cause a problem. Have you tried putting the windows down from their switches and once down try to open the roof.

Re: Roof issue
Ok I will try this with the windows.
After it has been raining I have sometimes had a little drip inside the window.

Re: Roof issue
Ok I have tried putting windows down one at a time (so both open) then try to open the roof.
What happens is the boot part (sail) lifts about 1 inch then check roof comes on the display.
I am able to then push forward on the button to put it back and I can then put windows back up and lock the roof.
On the display on dash it says roof opening and 1 block.
If I drive it, it then displays ROOF : CYCLE FINISHED and will bleep intermittently.

UPDATE
Issue with roof has been rectified.
There was a very small stone that was jammed between the rear window and the first part of the boot. I managed to free this and hey presto it's back working.
Special mention to the Mrs who spotted this. Lol.
I'm really not sure how it got there and in addition managed to lodge itself in.

Re: Roof issue
happy days. If it had been part of the boot motor or sensors you would have been looking at a pricey fix.

Re: Roof issue
Back to problem with roof again. 2 sensors replaced worked perfect for 2 weeks and doing exactly same as before. Tries to open and windows go down an inch as lid tries to lift. The 2 sensors replaced were either side of the lid. I now believe there is a 3rd along the boot lid. The dealers know very little and in general no-one appears to know much.
The guy I got to do it has diagnostic equipment but no error codes. He took a punt on the 2 sensors after speaking to Renault who then sent him a diagram showing the 3rd one. Strange that it did work for 2 weeks though.
He has taken then back off and refitted them as he says they have magnetic connections but still no joy.

Re: Roof issue
No I haven't done anything since my last post. I'd assume it will be the 3rd sensor.

Renkev or johnwkey61
Hi, wondered if either of you sorted the issues you had previously with the roof and error on the dash. With Scotland still in lockdown I haven't put car into independent Renault specialist in Edinburgh yet. Was wondering if the replacement of 2 (or 3) sensors was expensive ? Love the wind but it's a second car but starting to cost me a bit

Re: Roof issue
Mines cost me a bit aswell in other places but I have yet to have a problem with the roof at all. Makes me nervous as I know it’s coming just don’t know when. I tend to open and close it quite regularly even if the weathers not great just to keep it in check. Not sure if that’s stopping future issues but here’s hoping!

I'm with you re mechanisms that are used regularly stay reliable longer.
I open & shut the roof a few times every time I wash my Wind vacuuming out any bits of leaves etc that gather within the area of the boot lid, roof cover & mechanisms.
Fingers crossed!!

Re: Roof issue
Always best to keep them working regularly I think too!
You hear of so many people having problems the first few warm days of spring as they haven’t used them at all throughout the winter!

The weather looks good for a few days I might be the sad person that sits in the car on the drive with the top off.

Re: Roof issue
The frustrating thing is I've looked after the roof, opened it in the winter on a regular basis and greased various parts to keep it at its best. The roof opens and closes fine but start driving with roof open or closed and the stop warning beeps with roof cycle message. Hoping the local indy Renault specialist can get to the bottom of it after lockdown. I'll come back then with an update for others should anyone have similar issue

Re: Roof issue
@Mac1969 good luck, I’m betting on dirt somewhere making one of the sensors think somethings out of whack. Just think once it’s sorted you’d have gone through your roof nightmare. We’re all next!

Re: Roof issue
I had a problem posted on here.
The roof cycle is part of the problem the back goes up and moves back when in the upright position any dirt caught in that can create a problem..
My roof is is starting to make a groaning noise so will be out with silicon spray.

Re: Roof issue
At least one, maybe two people are having this problem over on The Renault Wind Owners Club UK Facebook page. Whoever gets to the bottom of the problem first, let us know and we will make sure it’s on both pages!!!!

Re: Roof issue
I must be lucky, two Winds, lots of miles and so far no roof problems. Maybe having the roof down whenever it’s not raining (and also when it is) is the answer?!
