7 Yr Service Issues
7 Year Service and Pre-MOT ('Vehicle Health Check') at the local dealership produced the following list of issues requiring attention (50k mi). Anything below you find surprising?
1. Rear brake pads and disks - 100% worn.
2. Steering - NSF Track Rod End.
3. Front Suspension - NSF Spring snapped / OSF Drop Link, excessive play.
4. Rear Suspension - OSR spring snapped.
Total repair bill estimated at £1025
Considering my 2017 MOT had just one advisory regarding the front pads/discs, I was rather surprised....

Re: 7 Yr Service Issues
My rear discs (and pads) were replaced recently as an advisory pre MOT. I’d done about 36k at the time. It was more due to corrosion then wear.
I think combination of 17inch wheels, potholes and speed bumps it’s not surprising to have suspension damage. Probably having one spring snapped has put stress on the others.
Think you have been really unlucky to get them all at once

Re: 7 Yr Service Issues
Sadly none of these comes as a big surprise but as Darren says you've been really unlucky to get all them at once.
Fascinating thing is that a broken spring has so little impact on some cars; not just Winds: that the driver is often unaware of the problem. My daughter had a broken rear spring on her Audi TT which was only picked up at MoT. So far her current TTS seems OK. Perhaps the break is at the base where it fits into the lower cup so ride height & spring rate are not affected.
NSF track rod: possibly some kerbing which we all seem to do in our Winds at some time or another & at 35000 mls I'm seeing wear in my rear discs which will need to be replaced when the pads are done.
Break open the piggy bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I’ve had all of those at one time or another, just not all at the same time. Deep breath, get it done and drive on....

Re: 7 Yr Service Issues
Thanks gang - solidarity :-) I am going somewhere other than the dealership for the MOT and the work. Will let you know how I get on (and the final cost).
Incidentally, I put away a little each month into what I call a car fund, just so events like this don't bite me on the backside. So you find me surprisingly chilled.

That's a great idea. Car will always cost money.

Re: 7 Yr Service Issues
Price seems rather steep for those parts supplied and fitted, none seem particularly unusual jobs for a 7 year old car. Having just bought discs and pads for front and back of another car for less than £80 & lastime I bought a full set of springs again for another car for under £150 it all seems steep rates !
