Do you think a Wind deserves a private plate?
Disclaimer: To prevent cloning please do not give your full plate details, unless you specifically want to.
For years I have always put 'ageless' personal plates on our cars, the reason being is that it makes it difficult for others to know the age of the car. (Unless they are car freaks and know all model details ), and it looks good.
I have owned ***565 for over 30 years and is on our Smart car. Bought it at £200 and its worth around £2000 now, as first three digits are letters. Funny how the dear plate ended up on the Wife's car
And have owned ***LAM for over 20 years and is on my Wind. It came with a car I bought all those years ago, and is worth over £500 now as first three digits is a letter followed by a number under 20 (ie, a prefix numberplate). Would be worth more to a Lamborghini owner, if interested, he he.
Mind you, you do not buy a plate to make money, as if you add up all the £80 transfers to the DVLA each time we changed cars, I think it adds up to just as much as what they are worth now. LOL!
So do you think your Wind deserves a private plate, and if so, do you have one?
And if you do not have one, will you get one soon?

@ARAF......Well done.
For those considering a plate....You pay a transfer fee of £80 to put it on your car right away, or can put it on retention till you get your car for £120 for first year, and if I remember £30 thereafter/per year if not on car.
You can put an older plate number on a newer car, but not vice versa.
You can get a pre-fix plate for £300 upwards,
example P2 WIN
Then there is dear ones like three letters and three numbers, two letters and two numbers, they start from £800 upwards.
Finally there are the specials like COL 1N, but these are crazy money
There are many car number plate websites to look at, and you can chose a plate to suit you. Remember the £80 for transfer usually has to be added to the cost of the plate.
Also to get plates made now, requires paperwork received via DVLA, to be shown to plate maker.

Ive got private plates on both my Winds, both Wind-related so worth nothing on any other car unless you own a renewable energy company! Both came straight from the DVLA for around £350, so not breaking the bank...

Not worth nothing. as if you sell the car privately later on with the plate, it has added attraction.
Also you could sell back to a private plate website, though as usual, selling is worth less than buying, but its cash in hand to get another different plate.

Re: Do you think a Wind deserves a private plate?
Was this due to illegal spacing of letters on the numberplate, or just parking fines?

Spacing and illegal numberplates generally towards the end id just drive with no front plate and claim it fell off as it's rare that I am going slow enough for them to see the back one:P

Re: Do you think a Wind deserves a private plate?
I did see a blue wind the other day with a cheapo plate, ie with a suffix 'J' (J was dated 1971 I think)
So it was J (with three numbers and three letters).
They are not that dear to buy, and hid the age of the wind. Approx £200 according to plate websites.

Ours has my other halfs initials and the pre fix was as close to Miss as I could find, was bought for her car before the Wind but not fitted to it, she will keep the plate if ever the Wind is sold on as its personal to her not the car

KJP 659J, my first car, a 1971 Mini 1000. Loved it! Had to always park it on a hill so I could jump start it cos the starter motor was duff.

My bike came before the car, can't remember the reg except it was M, 1974. Yamaha RD 200 with drop handle bars and stupidly massive expansion pipes just in case people couldn't hear me coming five streets away. You could ride up to a 250cc on L plates in those days with no time limit so I never bothered passing my bike test. Wish I had done though cos I always hankered after a 1960s Royal Enfield Continental GT and now they are remaking them in classis 1960s style, £3,999 new. 535cc and all of 39cc. My kind of bike!

Hah! Pretty much, even the colour is right but mine didn't have the white on the tank. Oh and mine didn't look so weedy either (not in my head anyway!).

My priginal one had the pinstripe around the tank, and was 'N' reg. This one came up for sale locally, about 20 years ago, and I thought it was close enough.
This is how the old bike's tank looked

Re: Do you think a Wind deserves a private plate?
I believe a cheaper way to get personalised plates is to get one that matches the car's age when you buy it new but to request the letters from the DVLA. Not sure how much it costs but has to be cheaper than other types of personal plates one sees advertised.
According to the log sheet my Wind's first owner (I'm the second) was called Janet & the last three letters on its period plate are JAN. It stands out even more in that that the first two letters are the same so it does raise some comments.
Is your name JAN? Well; being English & male; it probably isn't!!
I can only assume that the reason she didn't keep the plate was she may have gone for ??65JAN on her next new car.
That said: this is hypothetical unless you are thinking of trading in Your Wind for a new car so why am I wittering on about it???????
