Lotus - would this be a good replacement?
What do you think - should I trade in my black Wind for this beast?

That's a lot of money for an Elise. They are a lot more focused than the Wind, so less practical as a daily driver.
As a weekend toy that will be tucked away somewhere warm in winter, they're a smashing little car.

This review from Autocar suggests that the Elise is indeed a smashing little car, as it holds the road well and its steering is very responsive, but the downside it is uncomfortable, the quality of the interior design is poor, it has little boot space and taking the roof off is difficult.
I can see that the design of the Wind is heavily influenced by the Elise, but I am glad that the Wind is more practical as daily driver. I love the Elise's shape and look, but it is very uncompromising car.

When we went to Stratford for the meet there was an Elise there in blue and it looked Fab but no use if you need to carry more than a wallet/purse with you.

If it was less than 7K I'd say go for it!

If you want something less compromising, that holds the road well, Boxster. 2 boots, the roof is automatic and quick, pretty well screwed together, and comfortable.

It has always been a very basic car for the money and is essentially just a plastic kit car shell, so all you are paying for is the engine, speed and performance. Some like that, I don't. I like a bit of luxury.
Also in the practical world, these sort of cars attract 'off the lights' speedsters, other cars using any dangerous methods to overtake, thieves and vandals when stationary, and even the police takes interest in who is driving it.
With the Wind, we tend not to get that sort of thing. Well I don't,
so I get peace to drive my car
