Winter Winds
Well what happened to the weather? One minute it is warm next minute it is freezing cold. Winter has arrived... Snow is forecast and even London is going to get some snow.

Re: Winter Winds
Getting blootered by Storm Desmond all day (still on going).
Have not left the house today and had to batten down the garage roof (again) with some ropes. Rubbish roofing. Must put up decent corregated iron steel sheets next year. Keep putting it off.

Saw that some primroses are flowering in the garden and had to cut the grass today. See, the warm temperatures we get aren't all good.

Re: Winter Winds
Its over now, all calm and peaceful like at 8AM. Will get out now for some Xmas shopping
Seems Cumbria got the worst of it, with a lot of flooding, being in the epicenter. It was bad enough where I am in West Central Scotland.

Re: Winter Winds
Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing. He called the royal weather forecaster and inquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours.
The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days. So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, "Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area".
The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way." So he continued on his way. However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition.
Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the professional. Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying job of royal forecaster. The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."
So the king hired the donkey. Thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work for the government and paying them outrageous salaries to occupy its highest and most influential positions. The practice has continued to this day.

Re: Winter Winds
We were cut off here on Saturday, every road into the village was flooded. Receding now but devastation everywhere. One of my jobs in Carlisle was cancelled today as the house is flooded up to the ceiling. I reckon that sale will fall through...
The local garage on the valley bottom is a Jaguar dealer. 30 cars wrecked over the weekend.A local farmer had to retrieve cows that had been drowned in his fields. Places I love have been wrecked for the third time in ten years.

For those who were at the Lakes meet, the road we went over from Grasmere to Thirlmere is now impassable as at one point three quarters of the road has been washed away.....

Glad you are ok. Saw the pictures of the road. Nature can be beautiful but it looks like it will be awhile before some of that beauty returns.

Re: Winter Winds
The Lake district photo in the papers showing Keswick's waterside where you get the boat to cat bells, was really flooded out.
I was there just two months ago, and where I was standing on the beach getting a boat, I would have been underwater
Spot the difference....(at least the ducks are enjoying it)
