Alloy refurb? Empty Alloy refurb?

Post by kacey101 Thu 17 Mar 2022 - 18:18

Sorry, this is not really technical but I'm sure a few of you will be able to advise me.

My Wind is fitted with the original black-faced alloy wheels. I have a slow leak from my front off-side tyre that I am led to believe (by my local friendly KwikFit chap) is being caused by corrosion on the inside of the alloy wheel causing the seal to the tyre to break down.
Has anyone experienced similar and what was the route (and approx cost) you took to resolve it? I'm based in Nottm/Derby just in case anyone can point me at a specific company.

Many thanks

Keith C.

I think a wheel refurbishment may help I know there is a company in Doncaster called Scuff Medics they charge from £45 per wheel.

Corrosion on the inside is a common thing on most cars. The tyre just needs taking off, then the inside of the wheel cleaning down with a wire brush, then tyre back on and resealing. £20 job at a tyre place. 😊👍🏻

I had this on two wheels and was definitely corrosion on the inner rims, decided to get all four fully refurbished. Had them done gloss black with no diamond cut, which I think looks good on the black cars. Cost £360 in total for the work and took two days. There was quite a bit of kerb damage from previous owners so made sense to fully refurb them all.

They do look good in gloss black. Especially if you have the brake callipers in red also. 😊👍🏻

Yep, that was my first attempt (fair play to KwikFit, they didn't charge me at all) but the problem reoccurred after a few weeks. Looks like I need a specialist.
