Headlight Bulbs
Now getting into checking things. Are the headlights (bulbs) any good ? As I don't have the handbook yet what bulbs do the headlights use for side and main. Also how easy are they to change ?
My other car is a qashqai with bi led lights so they are really good. I came prior to that from a juke which had awful bulbs. I replaced then with nightbreakers unlimited which very very good.
You advices appreciated. Thanks

My garage man changed my main lamps to bright ones. His comment if it meant taking out lamp unit he wouldn't do it but he changed them so it must be easy.

Re: Headlight Bulbs
From the very limited dark running ive done so far, the beams seem very focused rather than bathing the road in light. Coming from a Merc with HIDs I miss that brightness so will look at upgrading them. I don't think HID was an option for the Wind was it? Im going to swap for LEDs in the side lights, indicators and brakes at some point, but I think they require the Canbus resistors.

Sorry about the large size of the screenshots, doesn't look like an easy way to control image sizes.
Anyhoo, if you need the PDF manual, its currently at https://www.renaultusa.com/News/DriversManuals/Wind.pdf

I do a fair bit of dark driving on unlit roads in winter and I think the headlight bulbs are poor with little sideways spread. I've changed them for brighter ones button still struggle with them particularly on winding, unlit, narrow country roads, a car coming the other way so you can't use full beam, trying to pick out the grass verge while not hitting the oncoming car.

Re: Headlight Bulbs
Bulbs arrived today had a quick look but will try them tomorrow. Is the main dipped beam the normal lights and the main beam when you flash/pull it back ? Just double checking. Thanks

Re: Headlight Bulbs
Got both bulbs in and lights look better but don't have small enough hands to get the spring clip back on on the passenger side ! So bloody frustrating. Taking it to a friendly garage and see if they can help. Yet another car I have owned that makes bulb changing a fffffff nightmare.

Re: Headlight Bulbs
Three years ago, I replaced my H1 dipped with a 50% brighter bulb from Hafords, and aso H1 main beam, again with 50% brighter bulb, as originals were rather poor in the rain at night. I paid £15 a bulb, so it was £60 total, but well worth it.
I just checked their website and I see they now do 90% brighter for the same wattage. Each are on sale at £11 at the moment, instead of £20.
Halfords Extreme Brilliance H1 Car Bulb 90% extra brightness (main beam) £11
Halfords Extreme Brilliance H1 Car Bulb 90% extra brightness (dipped) £11
Website...(search set for Renault wind)

Re: Headlight Bulbs
My old Mondeo was great for getting at the headlights - removal of the central grill with two clips, then two plastic retaining clips holding the headlamp unit on. So you could bring it into the house to change bulbs when it was persisting down outside.
Bully, do you have a 1.2 or 1.6? I wonder if there is any difference in access between the two motors?

1.2. Passenger side has the battery near the headlight hence my big hands can't get too much leverage. Got the clip off but it sprang out and I just can't get enough room to get it back. Going to see my tyre man tomorrow so may ask him. (Small hands hopefully. )

Haha, I am "blessed" with little girl hands, but if I do swap the bulbs, may get the Halfrauds chaps to do it.

Other thing I did fit today was 2 new front wiper blades. Simple ! Wiperblades.co.uk sent em quick and £21.40 delivered. Old ones were long in the tooth. That's my list of things to do now done other than replacing the other front tyre. I will keep you posted on the clip. If not I'll take it back to Renault and put the begging bowl out !

Yes, that what I did by using halfords (as said above), and the guy was half an hour doing it, while I sat back watching from a distance and had a coffee

Re: Headlight Bulbs
Good news headlamp clip sorted local tyre man did it. Also looked at passenger side front and it has 3mm left so ordered a new tyre from him as the drivers side was new by dealer when I picked up the car. Feel more comfortable with 2 new tyres so everything is balanced. He looked at rears and said they had 60% of life left in them. Tyre will be changed tomorrow. Once that is done thTs everything I had in mind to do.

Re: Headlight Bulbs
Mine has a right random array of tyres on, but they must be good as it sticks like sh**. Even with spirited driving, I can't get the traction control to activate.
Glad you got the bulb clip sorted.

The wonders of modern CAD design, utilising every little bit of space without thought of how people are going to work on the damned things.
Try a Vauxhall Corsa. The front bumper has to come off before the headlamps come out.

Re: Headlight Bulbs
I got my main bulbs changed for the +120% Halogens at Halfords which id guess are about 10-15% brighter, but they are slightly less yellow. Halfords man did them in about 5mins and we had quite an affable conversation about the Wind. It was the first one he'd seen IRL.
