.... at low revs when I'm accelerating, say away from a junction or roundabout. Only occasionally but several times a day, she just misses a beat or two, otherwise she's fine. It reminds me of days of yore when there was some grot in the carburettor that needed cleaning out. Any ideas?

She's in for a service on Friday but a heads up as to what it might be would be welcome.

Cheers.

If it's due a service, it could be a plug that's on its last legs, or with a build-up of dirt around the ceramic insulator, that the spark is tracking across intermittently. I doubt it's fuel, though with the mileage on yours, maybe the throttle body could do with a clean?

It could also be a coil pack. There's a known fault on Twingos, and the design is the same on the Wind. The plastic scuttle across the front of the windscreen is in two pieces, and water drips from the join, onto one of the coil packs. Again, this can drag dirt down into the electics, which is never good.

I have a slight misfire sometimes at partial throttle when the engine is cold, but that's a glitch in the engine map (IMHO).

I'm guessing that the check engine light hasn't come on? So there's probably no codes stored in the ecu, otherwise you could get a cheap OBD reader from ebay to find out what the car is telling you.

Cough sorted hopefully, I've not had a long run since I picked the car up but no coughing yet.

Full service done including plugs and oil/air filters and they also found some 'Trouble Codes' on the computer and cleared them. It means nothing to me but Araf might know if they've got anything to do with it:

DF091 - Vehicle speed signal - Bus fault, intermittent
DF007 - Fuel sender circuit - Intermittent, feed voltage too low
DF019 - 94 - Intermittent, low battery voltage
DF018 - Instrument panel - Intermittent, feed voltage too low.

The car's booked in again next week for a timing belt, due at 130,000 miles.

I thought DF018 and DF019 were MAF related.

Anyway, the common factor seems to be electricity, so I wonder if you've noticed the starter motor getting sluggish in the morning?

Have you had the battery replaced at all, or the alternator? On modern cars, slightly low voltages can manifest themselves in all sorts of ways.

They just look like stored fault codes to me; I'd definitely get the battery check though, it's probably coming toward the end of it's life ( check volts and ampage ) if it gets too low it will throw out the speed sensors out and cause the above error codes.

To recalibrate the speed sensors if necessary turn the wheel lock to lock

150 odd miles since the service and no cough. She also feels nice and lively.

That's good then. Did they replace plugs on this service?

Yes plugs changed, battery checked too. The occasional cough has come back so when it was in for it's timing chain today I got them to have another look and they found that the auxiliary drive belt that apparently does something with things like the alternator, was slipping so they tightened that up for me.

My cough had come back and had got worse and worse. Over the weekend W111NNDY was completely misfiring in any gear at more than the most delicate of touches on the accelerator and while misfiring a flashing orange engine light came on (bad exhaust emissions, obviously a symptom, not the cause) It seemed as though some electronics was interfering with the power though, def not a lack of fuel type of cough.

8am this morning I got hold of a local garage who said to take it in and they would look at it and would also let me have a courtesy car (an X reg Peugeot 106 diesel with wind up windows and no brakes...). By 11.30am I had got a phone call saying W111NNDY was ready to collect (but they didn't call her W111NNDY..). A diagnostic test had shown up an ignition coil fault, they had installed a new coil pack and hey presto! car back to normal. Well, so far anyway.

Total cost £88 for the parts, £30 for the diagnostics, £15 labour, total cost £159 inc vat. Fingers crossed it's sorted it out for good this time.

BTW, the bloke at the garage (one of the directors, no less) had never seen or even heard of a Wind before. He was most complimentary.

glad to hear you have WIINNDY sorted. It is still a shock how many people have not heard of the car. Nice being part of a rare group.

Yes, well you know what they say, about those in charge not having a clue. Wink
