I have a mate who owns and runs a car garage. He had a Wind in today that requires engine work. He’s got to ring the owner of the car, and let them know the cost for the work on the engine is considerably more than the car and recommend the car is scrapped. I really do wonder if it’s a car built to last? Just so happens I got the call today after leaving mine at the body shop. Hehe, omens?

Given that the most expensive Wind I've seen on line recently was priced at £4200 with others available from £2500 then a major engine rebuild would easily render the car a financial write off.

When buying my wife's new Honda Jazz last year the salesman emphasised the need for regular oil level checks by quoting a new engine at £8000!

That said pure financial common sense may not apply if the car is loved by it's owner.

Sadly the Wind; although rare; never grabbed the public's attention when new so is unlikely to be a "future classic".

Think we should just enjoy them for what they are: an enjoyable, & also very practical, eccentricity.

Not built to last? I'm sure a Wind should last as well as any of it's contemporaries from the period.

I agree, it seems well built to me but I have noticed when it suffers an issue it seems to suffer them greatly. Could just be down to poor ownership as I have yet to experience anything major to the point where my financial savy-ness would have me walk away. I was kinda hoping it would become a future classic as I like the idea of buying something that appreciates but I do have my doubts.

I think they will become future classics as they are a bit different!

Look at the amount of old cars about that years ago, you thought, that will never be a classic.

The Wind is starting to get a really good following.

It would be handy to find out if that one is scrapped for parts for members of the forum and The Renault Wind Owners Club on Facebook!
