Boot popped open Empty Boot popped open

Anybody had the boot just pop open on its own whilst driving ?....was definitely secure when I set off this morning...5 miles into my drive to work, the door open alarm went off..I pulled over and found that the boot had just popped open. Re- closing the boot cured the problem and it didn't re-occur...but was glad it didn't happen on the motorway. Any ideas anyone?....is this a common issue ?

Maybe a squirt of WD 40 up the boot catch mechanism might help.

Can't do any harm!

I’ve not closed boot properly once. It didn’t open while driving luckily as I was parked up and trying to lower roof. It wouldn’t do it and couldn’t work out why and it was because boot wasn’t shut.
My problem is more it not opening fully as the struts need replacing. Lots count how many times I’ve hit my head bending over to reach into boot.

Thanks guys....although it hasn't opened unexpectedly since, I've noticed now that the boot release switch seems slow to react when pressed....wonder if the two issues are linked ?

If it happens again check out the boot lock switch (the rubber switch on the boot that you press to open it). On a number of Renault models the switch mechanism can get wet and can play up like you have described. They are cheap to replace from places such as eBay or amazon. There are earlier threads about this if you search for "boot lock".
