Tyre Life? Empty Tyre Life?

How long do the tyres last on your wind?

Bought mine with 5500 miles on it & two tyres were changed then due to previous owner kerbing. 2 wheels were also refurbished.

Now it's done 37500 miles.

Two tyres are originals (Contisport 3) with 37500 miles on them & the other two (Contisport 5) have done 32500 miles.

I rotate my tyres to get even wear & at present all 4 have between 3 to 4 mm tread left.

This sort of mileage seems pretty good to me.

How does that compare with other owners experience?

Great mileage from the Continentals; which were noisy & unyielding over poor surfaces; but have decided to bite the bullet & fit new tyres tomorrow.

My priority is safety so I've chosen Avon ZZS which have an A rating for grip but an E rating for fuel economy. They also have a low; 70 db; noise rating & are reinforced.

They are also MADE IN BRITAIN.

At £294.80 for the set (just over £73 each from Black Circles) they seem good value for a high quality tyre.

I was also influenced by the performance of the Avon ZV7 tyres I had fitted to my wife's Captur which seem to work well.

After much deliberation; as seen on this site; re non standard tyres to increase tyre depth & overall gearing I've decided to stick with the standard 205/40/17 size as non standard sizes gave too little benefit in the areas I had concerns about.

I've assumed that RenaultSport know what they are doing!!

Will report back after a few miles.

Thanks for the info it is always good to get feedback. I stuck with Continental but probably down to lack of knowledge.

Car felt on tip toe driving back from fitters.

Yet again a tyre fitter has set pressures before fitting to car & subjecting them to the car's weight.

What was 35 all round off the car became 39F & 38R.

Why can't they get this right?

Have re-set pressures & checked torque on wheel nuts so lets see how we go.

Already a benefit in road noise: as expected.

Covered about 100 mls with pressures initially set at 35 all round but after about 30 mls I then went for 38F & 35R.

Time to re-torque wheel bolts, which I have done.

Definitely quieter & less crashy over road imperfections than the Contis.

Steering feel about the same. Price lower than Contis.

So far I'm pleased with my choice so lets wait for the long term to assess the mileage to cost ratio.
