P-Twang goes the Wind. Empty P-Twang goes the Wind.

Just popped out in the Wind and had a large metallic p-twang noise when I went over a pothole.  Luckily it was on the estate coming home.  The car seems to be driving straight and true, and, having taken some videos on both sides, I can't see anything obviously broken and hanging off, but I suspect something suspension related.  I thought it might have been a spring or an anti roll bar but they all seem to be attached.  Might be a bush.

However, I did notice the rear suspension has fairly new springs on, so that is a positive lol!

Only thoughts re noise:

1: Could be spring shifted in it's mounting cups & has then returned to the correct position.

2: Being pessimistic. Sometimes a spring can break at the very top or bottom where it sits in the cups but ride height is still maintained. Usually this results in movement of the spring in the cups with some associated noises so if all is now quiet then probably not this.

A tracking check might be the order of the day after such an incident.

I've a strong suspicion its either a failed bush or as you say, a spring has gone. It sounds fine until subjected to strong vibration like a pot hole when it makes a metallic rattle. Oh well, its due its MoT just after the international meet, so going to get it booked in in a couple of weeks and have that fixed, the cambelt changed and the mot.

Luckily we have a garage at work which takes a few weeks to send the invoice.. Smile
