What is a "Line" Empty What is a "Line"

Renault & Peugeot have for sometime used the model name GT Line. Why not just GT?

More recently others have jumped on the bandwagon such as: Ford: ST Line; Merc: AMG Line; VW: R Line & Audi: S Line.

Anyone know what this Line business is all about? It makes no sense to me!

Any relation to Go Faster Stripes?   Razz

I suspect its to do with trademarks, 'GT' seems like a popular brand in the automotive world, from vehicles to tyres.   Doesn't looks like anyone owns GT Line, but VAG owns their brands.   Also, I think 'line' has long been associated with the transport industry - Stena Line, Whitestar Line, Freightline(r), Train Line et al.

Hopefully someone knows the entomology of the word but it does make an interesting question Pittstop.

Look on them as half fat versions.

They have some of the looks but none of the go and at a fraction of the cost.  I think Audi were first with the S line, which had some brushed aluminium parts similar to the big V8s but on 2l diesels.
