10 Bargain Convertables...
Found this article https://www.motoringresearch.com/advice/buying-selling/winter-warmers-10-bargain-convertibles-to-buy-now which is a bit of a clickbaity news source, but interesting reading the various options none the less..
Surprised they mentioned the terrible VW Golf Mk3.5 convertable but not the wonderful . I assume these "journalists" have never heard the Wind. I found a similar article a few weeks ago that was something like Convertables under £5k and they had an ancient and knackered Megane CC, but again, no Wind.
I think we need to form a comment army and mention the Wind every time we see articles like this to increase the profile (and perhaps residual values ).

That sounds like a good idea. I still love my WIND

Being biased; having owned 2 of them; what about the MGTF?
PROPERLY MAINTAINED: they are great fun, economical, & reliable.

Re: 10 Bargain Convertables...
Did the MGTF use K Series Engines? How are they for eating through head gaskets?
Re: 10 Bargain Convertables...
Yes there is HG "weakness" with the K Series; particularly the 1.8; if it is allowed to overheat. There were also 1.6, 1.4, & 1.1 versions but only the 1.6 & 1.8 were used in the TF.
This is something it's more likely to do mid engined in the TF than in it's FWD applications which have better cooling.
Proper maintenance & monitoring engine temp was essential to the reliability I enjoyed.
I also owned 3 Triumph TR7s, a car with a widespread reputation for unreliability, but yet again proper maintenance; catching faults early; was the key to reliability. They never left me stranded despite high mileages.
I realise that some of the the current breed of car owners aren't prepared to make the effort. Checking the oil level once in a blue moon is a chore for some.
I'm a motoring dinosaur!!!

Re: 10 Bargain Convertables...
Lol you've been lucky. I know several people who've had Rovers, Land Rovers and one Lotus Elise which have all had to have major repairs due to the design feature of the engine. How they are never got recalled to fit better HGs I'll never know. Or how the problem existed for so long...
Re: 10 Bargain Convertables...
Yes we were certainly better served by the K Series than many.
We also had a Rover 200Vi which used the 1.8 VVC version. Also without HG trouble.
Perhaps the devil looks after his own!!
I guess the lack of a proper solution reflected the state of MG Rover at the time who were unprepared to invest further.
At one point the "Landrover Gasket" from the later 1.8 Freelanders was lauded as a cure but it is ironic that after Nanjing Corp bought MG they modified the non VVC 1.8 K series engine into the N Series which, fitted in the TF, allegedly did cure the HG problem.
Better get off this or the other Winders will accuse us of starting a K Series forum!!!!!!!!!!

All cars welcome. But they need to have a love of the Winds
