hello all!!
hello all, i have just joined! i do not own a wind yet, but hopefully in the very near future!
i have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
question 1, should i look for a 1.2 or 1.6.
i'm no speed freak but i do like a decent bit of acceleration! (0 - 50?)
question 2, is there any problems i should be checking for?
i first seen a wind a good few years ago, the thing that struck me about was that it reminded me of a toy car i had as a youngster, it was a lotus europa!
but i must admit, the wind is, in my opinion, a stunning little car!
thanks in advance for your input.
Don.

Re: hello all!!
Hi I have a 1.2 and to be honest it's fast enough for me, The things I would look for are
At the age of most of the Winds there is a cambelt to change at 6 years or 72k miles. I believe this is a cheaper repair on the 1.2 something to do with the engine positioning.
There was an issue with ball joints but I think most of the cars got a warranty repair for these.
The 1.2 has cheaper car tax and insurance.

Re: hello all!!
Go for the 1.2 if you can, though there's little between them so no choice is a bad choice.
I had the 1.6 and it isn't as good on petrol. The 1.2 is just as flexible (or better) according to the journalists that have tried them back to back. Acceleration is similar for both models, and as has been said, the cambelt change on the 1.6 is an engine out job officially (£650)- and they will all be getting to that age now.
Whichever you choose, you won't be disappointed. Happy hunting.

Thanks Araf, that's mighty expensive!
I think I was edging towards the 1.2, there are a few more around at my budget!!
Just got to get my wife onside now, a little bit of sweet talking and a big bit of decorating should do the trick!! Haha
Cheers,
Don.

Re: hello all!!
If you want the Wife on side let her drive she will fall in love and you might have to buy another that's what happened with Moggie. Also buy her a warm coat it is a wonderful feeling driving around topless in winter.

Re: hello all!!
Haha, this could prove to be a bit more expensive than first thought!!
My wife is very happy with her own car, a hyundai ix35.
She's not very keen on open tops, we had an mx5 a few years ago and she would never go topless because it messed her hair up!! Hahaha

I hate open topped cars. The Wind is very good at being a tin-top.

Re: hello all!!
Hi and welcome. I went for 1.2 purely as it was the best one I was looking at although others said nit that much difference between the two. The 1.2 is a turbo so a bit more flexibility at the lower end. I am pleased with mine. If I could make a suggestion go for one with full leather seats and heated seats. I would think without this in my opinion the car is less drivable with the roof down on colder days. I believe I am write that full leather and heated seats come with the grad leather door handles - just in case your looking on line. Hope this helpful.

Re: hello all!!
Looking forward to seeing you as a Wind owner. If you see one that means you need to travel maybe if it's in an area where one of us live we can check it out first for you. In the meets section there is a thread 'Where is your Wind.
I would still buy Blue.... Lol

Re: hello all!!
Having done a bit of searching last night, I have come up with another question, some of the winds I looked at had leather seats but no mention of them being heated!
So the question is, do all leather seats have heating?
Cheers,
Don.

Re: hello all!!
OMG!! Just phoned the local Renault dealer out of curiosity about the cam belt, Araf is right, £600 - 650 for the 1.6, but the 1.2 is considerably cheaper, the nice lady says, only £399!!
Shocking!! Haha.

@donjack a good mechanic will be cheaper, main dealer are not worth it when the car is out of warranty in my opinion anyway. Most dealers haven't even seen a Wind
