New potential owner

Hi guys.  New to the wind.  Thinking of getting one as a weekend car.  Going to look at a GT line 1.2 tomorrow.  
I made a call to the dealer and asked some questions.  It needs servicing    One thing that did trigger a warning is it doesn't have a full service history. It's missing it's earlier service life but has current service history.  Should I be concerned.  
Als o I have read about cam belt replacement.  It's 11 plate with 44,000 on t

Lastly I can't see the typing on the message and I need to turn off an icon - which icon please !

I'm never too worried about missing service history - its easily faked and doesn't tell you that much usually.   Just do a thorough inspection of the mechanicals - check the oil for water, the coolant water for oil/fowling.  Check the disks for scoring and you can have a rough butchers at the brake pads from outside, although not a perfect check.  Check the roof and window mechanisms, have a feel around the carpets to make sure there is no dampness. May be worth getting a HPI or Experian check which will give you a report on the mileage history to see if it was some elses weekend car. 
As you said, need to consider a cam-belt in the next 12-18  months or so.
If you can, its worth comparing the 1.2 to the 1.6 engine as they are somewhat different.  The 1.2 is great for city driving, and does cope well on the motorway,  but Id say the 1.6 is a better 'GT' engine from the tests I did.

RE the problem entering text, its the last one for me on the bottom row which looks like a document.  If you hover over it, it should come up saying switch document mode.

Thanks the response.  Appreciate the comment re service history.  I am fortunate that most of the cars I have owned had been new or been around 2 years old when bought so had some warranty left.  Car is coming from a Renault dealer and says it has a 12 month warranty which I can presume gives some back up.   
Ill do the Checks you suggest.

Ps did the hpi Check and it comes up clean. 2 owners mileage matches etc

Wish I could help you but I am clueless in that department.The serivces wern't completely up to date but what I did find that if you log into my renault (there is also a mobile app). The last service details are online.

Had a drive this morning.  Drove really well and looked good.  
The negatives - only 1 key but they would get another.  Brakes felt poor and dealer didn't know when they were changed but would check on Monday.  One tyre was shot.  Air con needed re gassing. He would do all this but possibly not the brakes.  They would also service and mot. 
However for me the bummer was no negotiation on price.  I made him an offer but they refused.   

Additionally is the wind supposed to have a spare tyre and a mesh wind deflector ?

Onto the next one.  But I might revisit this one later.

The spare wheel was an extra. They did have one of those gunk kits.Mine was pre registered and it had the space saver spare. Thanks to a member on here Araf I now have a full size spare, just took a little adapting the boot. The mesh wind defector was an extra too. Last time I looked on Autotrader there were 39 for sale.

Thanks barbs.   Can you point me to the mesh wind deflector on line ?  Having trouble finding one.  

Had a look at another one today.  A little cheaper and lower miles but a bit scruffy.  Needed 4 wheel refurbs.  3 month warranty.  Everything else I looked at on line that looks decent is excess of 100 miles away which not sure I want to travel that far at this time.   

Will go back to the Renault dealer and have another conversation

I think the deflector is over £300. On our recent International meet in France some of them had them but they were not convinced it made much difference.
I'd travel 100 miles to buy a Wind.... Where shouts are you? @Bullyboy

Kent.  Just a lot going on in personal life with kids etc.   So unlikely to get time in the next couple of months to head out on a long journey.

Hopefully one last question for now - some of them on autotrader have pictures of the inside of the boot.  In the boot sort of under the latch area there is some sort of silver box or casing ?  The one I drove I don't think had that.   What is it ?

Id also say be prepared to put in the mileage to get a good one.  We did about 500 miles to look at Winds before I picked my shoe, although I did want a Collection preferably, although would have also gone for a GT Line.  I'd also say don't overpay as they tend to sit on forecourts for quite a while before selling, so dealers eventually get fed up and start discounting them to shift them.  Renault dealers think they're worth more than the market rate.

Thanks this one from the dealer seems to be in the middle of the pricing of them on auto trader.  It's quite tidy. The other one I looked at today although lower mileage was in a poor condition.  

We will see what the dealer says tomorrow.   If he is prepare to put new brake pads on and the breaks feel sharper and he agrees to do all the other stuff I might jump in.  Cane with a full warranty so piece of mind rather than a lot of dealers seem to be offering 3 months.

I'm surprised the brakes 'felt poor'. I've done many, many miles in two different Winds with the brakes in every stage of wear and they have never felt poor. The brakes are always sharp even when the pads and discs need replacing, particularly on my 1.2 where they bite very early which is how I like it. If they feel poor on the one you're looking at I'd be concerned.

When I slammed them on a bit it didn't stop as sharply as I would like.  The dealer said it's possible they are on there original pads and need changing.  As it was Sunday he would Che k tomorrow and give me the verdict.  I felt they lacked something.

If the car has bad brakes forget it, there are plenty others out there.

Also Wind black/silver standard alloys are really rough, and most are knocked to bits with kerbing, as they stick out. Most of us have had to get them refurbished at one time or other. Should really have fitted some aftermarket ones.

Summer is always a bad time to buy a convertible as they hike the price up.

Anyway, if you are willing to travel you can end up with a good Wind, Good luck.

Dealer phoned and back brake pads were under 10% so will replace them hence why brakes felt a bit spongey. I put deposit down with hopeful pick up at the end of the week or Tuesday next week. Car serviced and mot today. Air con re gassed and pads replaced. Just waiting for a new continental tyre for the replacement front drivers side.
Just a few days to wait now !
