Favorite Sat-Nav?
I wondered what folks favorite sat-navs and apps they use are?
I've been a user of GPS capabilities since the early 2000s when the first 'inexpensive' Bluetooth GPS modules started appearing. Now, pretty much every mobile phone has GPS capabilities built in and a wide range of apps available therein. Plus, dedicated units are inexpensive and very capable.
I used to use TomTom on a Windows CE device which was very good, but frustrating that you had to pay for updates.
My current device choice is an Android tablet with 4G capability.
I use Waze for my day to day commute. This has community based traffic app which alerts and reroutes based upon incidents and accidents. Because it has speeds down to a per (main)road level, it makes it easier to find the less grid-locked routes. Plus, it often has accurate locations of mobile "safety" cameras.
It doesn't allow much planned routing, other than intermediary PoI stops as its prime aim is to get you from A to B in the fastest time.
For longer journeys, I use Google Maps/Navigation. This does have better routing control, as you can plan on your PC and then send it to your phone. You can download mapping data offline for selected areas which means that it keeps working even when you're out of signal coverage. Plus, since Google bought Waze, you also get some of the data appearing on your maps if you have 3G coverage.

Re: Favorite Sat-Nav?
I found sat navs are getting much better. In Ireland I learned to trust the routing on the nav, rather than the map, as I missed a turn, but rather than going back on myself, i took a route marked on the map which turned out to be a logging trail.
