     New MX-5 Empty New MX-5

Post by knebby Mon 19 Oct 2015 - 22:00

I was looking at a new MX-5 the other day and considering it as a Wind replacement. It's had great reviews looks good and is smaller and lighter than its predecessor. All good.

But I was quite stunned that for a car that is pretty much the same size as the Wind, albeit a lot lower, it was deficient in so many key areas.

Just to list a few things that I disliked:

The cockpit is tiny, the seat doesn't go far enough back, my knees were almost touching the bulkhead, the steering wheel is too low and almost rests on my knees, the footwells are too small to have the dog sat there and have a passenger as well, there's no storage space at all behind the seats and the boot! Well, it must be a quarter of the size of the Wind.

Id already started doing the man-logic to justify having an MX-5 for work during the week and the Wind for the weekend but just by sitting in it, not even taking it for a test drive, I realise just couldn't live with it.

Come on Renault, do another Wind!!!

Knebs don't go to the dark side. We will find you a low mileage Wind to replace your Wind and it will be cheaper than a mx5

I'm not sure about the MX5.  It's lighter than the out-going model, as that was getting a bit porky.

Certainly not something that I would consider as a Wind replacement.
