Headlight removal Empty Headlight removal

Post by Sychologist Mon 10 Aug 2015 - 13:12

Hi, new here as I'm the mechanic for my partners Wind. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to remove a headlight as it looks as though the bolts are impossible to reach?

Thank you.

Our car has sustained a slight nock from the previous owner and moisture is getting into the unit. If I can remove it I can reseal it.

The unit can't be completely sealed, as the bulb hole will always allow damp in.  I would drill a hole in the top, but under the bonnet, to let the moisture out, and equalise the humidity, then condensation won't build up.

I have found from former cars, that it is better in the long run to just replace the whole light unit when moisture gets in, rather than try removing moisture, as once it gets in its so difficult to rectify.

You can get one off Ebay when it comes up occasionally, rather than pay full price at the dealers. Prices for secondhand headlight units are around £20 to £70 depending on condition.

@Colin as this forum is fairly new 5 months old we don't have much in the way of old data but I do seem to remember you contributed quite a lot of interesting facts about our Winds and other stuff. Don't suppose you remember much of it do you. Mkstevo and Araf had some information but anymore would be welcome.

I appreciate your comments and hope to be a net contributor in the long run but still can't see how you remove the headlight? I'm thinking the bumper has to come off first? I'll try drilling some holes in the appropriate place as a starting point and will keep an eye out for another unit. Thanks again.

the headlamp unit needs to be removed with the bumper of as it can only come out in a forward motion due to the lip around it holding it in place but it's very easy. look for the front bumper removal section, remove the bumper and it's a case of 4 bolts holding the headlamp units in place and jobs a good one

this applies to all mk2 twingo's regardless of trims.

Yeah it's a bumper off job, blow dry it out or drill a hole if there's water in there; check for cracks and reseal
